In 2019 Turkish neuroscientists discovered that emotional intelligence training helps kids who have ADHD with impulse control, recognizing emotions, empathy, stress, change, and emotional regulation.

As a result, they discovered that low emotional intelligence levels in kids can lead to psychiatric comorbidities such as depression, substance abuse, self-harm, and dangerous risk-taking behaviors. (Lut et al. 2019).

Emotional intelligence training gives them adaptive coping skills that help when stress arises. Kids without these skills develop maladaptive coping skills that are externalized outwardly.

Kids who abuse substances, suffer from depression, display outbursts of anger, and other behavioral problems often deal with their stress in maladaptive ways. These behavioral traits are a mask that hides the real problem inside.

Kids need their parents to help them build self-esteem and overcome misbehavior, but they also need emotional intelligence training too.

These three spheres combined will help your child's behavior improve and set them up for relational success in the future.
